Disability Services Has New Hub

May 7, 2009 by Jon Mentser

Columbus State's Department of Disability services officially moved from Franklin Hall room 228 to its new home in Eibling Hall room 101 as of April 21.

The move was motivated by the need for a more spacious facility, and that's exactly what they got. The new facility is at least twice the size of the old one and boasts a larger testing area, eight private testing rooms, and lockers for students' belongings.

The new location of Disability Services was formerly the Data Center and was remodeled into its current form over several months.

The response to the move from both staff and students has been overwhelmingly positive.

According to Disability Services Assistant Madeline Lowery, curious people from all over campus have been very impressed.

"People from all over campus have come to look around and have remarked how nice it is," said Lowery.

According to Disability Services Assistant Lee Mullenniex, another benifit of the new space has been increased staff unity.

"It's nice that the staff is now all together in one area, rather than in two separate areas, as it was in the old facility," said Mullenniex.

Another advantage of the new Disability Services is its increased accessibility, especially for people who use wheelchairs, as student Jackie Bottom can attest to.

"Not needing to use an elevator makes it much more convenient than the last one," said Bottom.
